DEVELOPMENT OF ISIS (Integrated Semantic Information Services)
              2005 — Current
Development of a computer application for faceted classification and search. Based on the concept of “facets,” this application integrates common information management tools such as file plans, metadata frameworks, thesauri, work processes and knowledge maps into one coherent semantic model.

AUTOCLASSIFICATION OF DOCUMENTS USING AN EXISTING ISIS MODEL AND STATISTICAL SUMMARIZATION STRATEGIES
    2010 — Current
Statistical summarization has been an active field of research in deriving keywords from text as a mean of categorization. This project extends this work by assigning goodness-of-fit scores between a document and each concept within the taxonomy by querying the taxonomy using the keyword summary.
There are a number of competing algorithms to do this that can be derived from graph theory including the assigning node score based on its distance from a keyword node or selecting the most general node which encompasses all keywords. This research concerns itself with the performance analysis of these strategies using a number of open data sets and taxonomies so that Cogniva can then decide on the best course of development for its products.

BUSINESS ANALYSIS METHODOLOGY FOR RECORDKEEPING
    January 2009 — April 2011
In collaboration with Library and Archives Canada (LAC), creation of a business-oriented methodology for applying the Directive on Recordkeeping released by the Treasury Board Secretariat in 2009. Financed by three consulting projects, this research has involved the development of theoretical and methodological tools for the directive implementation. These tools, currently under revision, will soon be published and made available on GCPedia (internal wiki) to all federal employees.

ARTEFACTS CANADA FACETED TAXONOMY
The consulting project was completed at the end of 2007. Researchers completed the analysis of research data as well as publications in 2010.
Development and pilot of a faceted classification model on a group of eighteen users. This research project was part of a consulting contract for Heritage Canada. The team had to develop a methodology in order to provide a visual representation of the Artefacts Canada digital collection as well as a means for the majority of users to browse the content. Artefacts Canada Humanities is a database containing approximately 3.5 million records describing the different collections of Canadian museums.

TERMINOWEB SEMANTIC ANALYSIS AND MODEL AUTO-GENERATION PROJECT

October 2009 — November 2011
Using a semantic analysis tool- TerminoWeb- developed by Dr. Caroline Barrière, this project investigated possible strategies for the automatic creation of ISIS models (faceted classification hierarchies with relationships between values in different hierarchies) using organization documentation via semantic analysis of semantic patterns extracted from the text.
